Cheese Kransky Hot Dogs

Start training your kids to cook early in life and make meal times’ fun with this very simple but extremely tasty recipe. I truly love a good hot dog and I always enjoy experimenting with our Hellers sausage range to get the best crowd pleaser but, I guarantee you the most popular hot dogs you will ever make are with our fantastic award-winning Cheese Kransky’s. Kids just love them and I personally enjoy making them with my young (and constantly hungry) nephew George, he gets so involved and he is very proud of his creative tomato sauce designs!

Serves 4. Preheat your fan oven to 150.C. Preparation time - 15 minutes. Cooking time – 15 minutes

8 each Hellers Cheese Kranskys
4 each Long hot dog rolls – cut each roll in half to make mini size rolls, then slice through along the top till about halfway down
Quarter Red onion very finely diced - soak in cold water for a few minutes to remove bitter juices and then dry on paper towel
1-2 cups Your favourite grated cheese – I love vintage cheddar and George loves anything!
Few knobs Butter
Squirty bottles Your favourite tomato sauce and American style mustard


In a medium size pot bring water to the boil and then turn it down to a very gentle simmer, add the Hellers Cheese Kranskys and be careful NOT to boil the water as this peels off the skin.

Place the cut rolls into the oven for 5 minutes no longer as you don’t want them crusty just soft and warmed through. Take them out once heated through and butter them, this is the time to get all the kids involved and let them get creative and make their own. You could put all the ingredients for the hot dogs on the table and let them assemble and eat as they go – lots of fun!

I like to layer my hot dog but you can really do whatever you like. I start with a squirt of mustard along the buttered roll and then a sprinkle of grated cheese. Then, the hot Hellers Cheese Kransky, another sprinkle of grated cheese, a few scatterings of red onion, more mustard and finally the tomato sauce.
